The evening before practice started Denny Brauer, KVD, Terry Scroggins, Kevin Wirth, Jimmy Mason, Russ Lane, Boyd Duckett, and myself attended a fundraiser for my fishing for kids event. I want to thank these guys and organizers Mike and Gwinn Johnson for hosting the event and raising $2000.

Guntersville was its typical awesome self. Fish were caught a variety of ways. I finished 12 and caught all of my fish on a Booyah spinnerbait. I am so ready to win one at Guntersville, hopefully it will happen soon. I am now 25th in the points and looking forward to the Northern Lakes. On to the first Major at High Rock.

Pride of Georgia

Clarks Hill - 44th - 13 fish - 33.0 pounds

Clarks Hill was bittersweet. It was good to get a check but it was disappointing to fall on the final day. These guys are so good you dont want to give up that many points.

A lot of fish were still spawning, however the better fish were feeding on bluebacks on the nain lake points. On to Guntersville.

Toyota Texas Bass Classic

Timmy Horton“It really felt like our Independence Day,” said Tim Horton, one of the field of 140 to compete in the inaugural Toyota Texas Bass Classic

In the first of many expected post-scripts to this landmark event, Horton was both humbled and yet vindicated that a production of such magnitude could be carried through to a successful conclusion.

“We were told we couldn’t do it,” said Horton, “but the feeling isn’t ‘I told you so,’ but rather we’re all really proud of this sport and this event.”

Whether it was sponsors or spectators, or the pros themselves, the theme most repeated, said Horton was, “We had no idea it was going to be so big.” The unity of the PAA member/anglers was another highlight of the tournament. Horton quoted President Mark Davis in his first meeting with the contestants at Lake Fork saying, “Welcome to the PAA family reunion.”

Horton Catches 12-1 monster on Clear Lake

I thought Amistad was the best place we would ever visit, but I can assure this event was second to nowhere we had ever been. It reminded me of the events we had fished at Santee when we would hit it just right. I caught most of my fish early in the week on a 3/ 4 oz. Booyah football head jig, with a yum craw papi for a trailer.

On the third day I caught the largest bass I have ever caught at 12.1 lbs. With a 13th place finish and jumping 30 places in the points made the trip back from California a little easier.

On to The PAA tournament at Lake Fork, lets see, Amistad, the Delta, Clear Lake, and now Fork, I don't know if it could get any better.

This one really got me, tidal fishing can be feast or famine, and I felt my timing was off the entire event. This is another great fishery, however my finish in the 80' s did not get me off to a great start in the points. Hopefully I can get things turned around at Clear Lake

My favorite crankbait is the Switchback Shad, It is designed with a thin paddle and has a rattle that you can turn on and off. I like to fish it around offshore structure such as rockpiles and dropoffs. This is the most suttle crankbait available on the market. Catch fish others are missing with the switchback. More
